Glass’s theoretical strength (~7,000 MPa) far exceeds practical values (35‑70 MPa) due to surface microcracks. Five strengthening methods—hardening, chemical stabilisation, homogenisation, stress relief, and design—combined with precision edge machines (double‑sided, polishing, miter, bevelling, CNC) and post‑treatments like tempering and microcrystallisation, can multiply strength up to 18‑fold. Glass thus becomes a robust material for construction, transport, electronics, and aerospace.
